Is there any way to PERMANENTLY disable "live" mode on the camera (iPhone 15, latest S/W). I've got the camera switched to preserve the previous setting, but somehow 🙄 live keeps being set again. Probably my clumsiness, so I'd just like to disable it for once and for all.

Hello~ Try this Settings >> Camera >> Preserve Settings >> Live Photo On. When you turn Live Photo off in the camera app then it will stay off. Live mode icon is in upper right tap on it (off has line through it) That works for me until I turn it on then back off in camera App. Take care…
