Disk partioning in bootcamp unresponsive

im trying to get windows to have better access to online games but while following the steps in apple support to get windows on mac using bootcamp assistant, i got to the step where bootcamp partitions a disk for windows however it stopped responding after the bar had reached the end, nothing has happened and it has been stuck for days as i've left the application open. i don't know a lot about computers other than using terminal a bit while following some online tutorials so some details on terminology would be helpful

i'm using a 2012 iMac MacOs Catalina, i'm on version 10.15.7
