Thanks Martin but the instructions received with the Trackpad say to connect it to the Mac with the Lightning to USB C cable and it will set itself up. I don’t have USB C ports. I’ve been looking for it in Bluetooth but nothing. The set up app doesn’t seem to see it either.
If Apple lists your Mac as being compatible with the trackpad, you can use
to overcome the USB connector difference.
If Apple does not list your Mac as being compatible with the trackpad, it is possible that your Mac would not have the built-in drivers to use the trackpad even if you had an appropriate adapter cable.

When I got my Apple Magic Trackpad II I just used a USB-A Lightning cable to get to pair with my 2009 27” iMac. Never had any problems after the initial pairing.
I am still using that Magic Trackpad II on my 14” MacBook Pro w/M1 Pro CPU.
Whether you use a USB-C or USB-A Lightning cable does not matter to the Trackpad.
An Apple Magic Trackpad is a wireless Bluetooth device; it does not use wired USB C. Pair it with your Mac the same way you would pair a bluetooth keyboard or mouse.
See Connect an Apple wireless keyboard, mouse, or trackpad with Mac - Apple Support for more information.
Assuming it’ll pair and work with the older Mac, use a Lightning to USB-A cable, what Apple calls Lightning to USB:

Martin
just put me down as a dill; I just found the on/off switch on the Trackpad.
Sorry for the trouble.
