Finder keeps asking password for External disc changes

Pleeez help: Since I added my external disc as a time machine backup disc, I could not add or delete anything as I used to

Now that I have removed my external disc as a Time Machine backup, I still have the issue of Finder asking me for my password every time I want to add or delete a file.

Q: How do I get my disc back to normal (no password required) without having to format or reset it and potentially losing the data on on the drive?

This is a good example, of why it is a bad idea to use an external drive for both file storage and TM backups.

I would check the disk permissions for that external drive.

It that doesn't help, then you may need to copy the saved files to another drive.

Then reformat that drive to remove the TM backups and copy the saved files back to it.
