I have a iPad Pro 13 (M4) running iOS 17.5.1 I am trying to uncover an old Wi-Fi password. I go to settings, Wi-Fi, Edit. All wi=fis are shown, each ending with a lock and a blue circled "i". The ones I am interested in do not show a "password" option. Others do, but the ones I need do not have a password option. Help??

WIFi networks that don't show an associated Password field are "open" networks - that do not require a password to join.
Perhaps password authentication has since been added for the network to which you are attempting to connect.
Either way, if the WiFi network requires a Password to join, if you haven't recorded the Password elsewhere, you will need to obtain the Password from whoever owns the network.
But yet when I try to join one of these “open” networks, it asks for a password I do not have
