How to close apps on iPad without a home button?

I have recently upgraded my iPad to one with no home button, I have an app that will not allow the slide and close option, which means there isn’t any way that I have found to get out of it unless you totally shut the iPad down, the old iPad with the home button allowed a forced shut down of the app, does anyone know a way around this.
