Help in keeping the Best Picture Settings in Apple TV 4K ?

Hello Guys,

I have an Apple TV 4K 1st generation connected to my Hisense TV. I need advice on the best settings for both devices, especially for watching Dolby Vision and HDR content. I am talking about these settings on Apple TV - https://postimg.cc/FYY7sRFT

Specifically, I'm looking for:

1. Recommended settings for Apple TV and Hisense TV for optimal Dolby Vision and HDR performance.

2. Do I need to manually adjust TV picture settings every time I switch between content types.

3. isnt there like an automatic setting on Apple TV that selects the best picture settings on the Apple TV itself and the TV, including color temperature for Dolby Vision and HDR?

I want an automated solution so I don't have to manually adjust settings on both devices for each content type.

Attached are screenshots of my current Hisense TV settings. Any guidance on what changes to make in the Video and Audio Format sections would be appreciated.

That is not the default setting. Please try Reset Video Settings, to have Apple TV determine new defaults for the currently connected equipment.

Format would then be set to HDR for HDR screens. You can set it to SDR, and have Match Content switch automatically between SDR and HDR. It might cause a pause when the TV adjust; that might get annoying for some users.

Chroma 4:4:4 is excessive and might prevent other video settings from being optimal. All streaming video is 4:2:0 anyway; no need to go beyond that. It is not so much of an issue with later models that have an HDMI 2.1 port, in combination with 48 Gbps HDMI cable and TVs with HDMI 2.1 — those have bandwidth to spare, and other video settings wouldn’t be affected.

For Picture Mode, select a DV setting with brightness and contrast that is comfortable and not fatiguing to the eyes. As mentioned below, the room lighting may affect what you perceive as optimal. A brighter room needs a brighter TV image.

Color temperature can be affected by the light sources in the room (including windows!). So try the different settings for your personal preferences (=what looks “neutral”) in a typical watching session light conditions. True grays shouldn’t have a hue.

Most people have “warm light” light bulbs, but daylight from windows is a higher color temperature. A special home cinema room might have almost no lights during the watch session, besides the screen itself.

The Apple TV will automatically select the highest quality settings supported by your TV. You don't have to do anything. For content with lower quality settings it will adjust itself accordingly without you needing to do anything either.

2. Do I need to manually adjust TV picture settings every time I switch between content types.

No. The Apple TV does that automatically as said.

Yes. As said the Apple TV does that on its own. Whether you like the result of that or not, is entirely personal.

If you go to Settings ➜ Video & Audio , you can change Format. But you don't have to.

The Apple TV does that on its own already. Nothing you need to do.

The settings directly on your TV are independent of the Apple TV. You should not need to change them from their defaults. Dolby Vision IQ should be the one to keep it at. As to color temperature, that is entirely personal. Do you like a warmer image or a colder one? Can't tell you what to set for that. You may just want to leave it at medium
