Gray dot cursor on iPad Pro conundrum and solution

Like so many confused users, the gray dot cursor suddenly appeared on my spanking new 13" M4 iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. I searched and searched the posts and everyone seemed confused about how to fix it.

Well, you can skip the talk about Accessibility settings or any other setting for that matter. It turns out that the gray dot appears whenever you touch the trackpad on an attached keyboard. And that's any keyboard, not just Apple's.

You can remove the gray dot by disconnecting your keyboard from your iPad and reconnecting it. But if you use the trackpad again, it will return. And as of this writing, I see no way to defeat that feature. (Anyone?) Your only solution to the gray dot cursor conundrum is to not use the trackpad, and that is harder than it sounds for us MacBook Pro users who can't not use it.

Good luck!

The dot-cursor (pointer) is indeed visible when actively using a TouchPad or a Mouse with iPad. The cursor will automatically disappear when input from the TouchPad/Mouse ceases - typically within a few seconds.

If the cursor does not disappear, check the Pointer Control setting:

Settings > Accessibility > [Physical & Motor] Pointer Control > [Appearance] Automatically Hide Pointer - set to ON
