iTunes removed and reinstalled every time it is run

Every time I run iTunes, even if I close it and immediately restart it, I get the message "Your previous iTunes installation must be removed before continuing"

Then iTunes in removed and reinstalled which takes several minutes.

iTunes work OK but having to reinstall every time it is run, even from the stsrt menu, is annoying.

turingtest2: Thanks, but I have been down that road many times already with no fix.

I spent several hours on the phone with Apple Tech support and many escalations to various experts and the consensus is that they do not know what is causing the problem and no advice on how to fix it, and that's from top level Apple tech support.

They did tell me that iTunes is going under a major evolution soon, and I am not sure what that entails, but they did suggest I download the new under development Apple Device and Apple Music Apps from the Microsoft Store, which I did and it seems to resolve my issues in that iTunes interface is greatly modified under these apps and loads normally.

However, everything is not in one place anymore. I need to run Apple Device App for phone backups, and the Apple Music App to play music. iTunes only works for audiobooks and podcasts but ni no longer insists on deletion and reinstall every time it runs. They all seem to use the iTunes interface, but they just work differently.

For me I am able to easily backup my iPhones with Apple Devices app and that was my major concern.

All files, backups and libraries are unaffected and work seamlessly with the appropriate app.

It is all a work in progress, so we'll have to see what happens with time.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
