Catalina Mail Archive question

Hi all,

my company is getting rid of their google enterprise account and my email account is going away. I have managed to get all my old emails sucked into an apple mail account, but I tried to set it up as pop but apparently it's imap. Therefore when an email is deleted in gmail, the deletion syncs with Mail and the email goes away. I am terrified that when the gmail goes away that the emails in Mail will vanish.

Can someone tell me either (1) how to prevent the sync from ever being attempted again, or (2) that the deletion of the gmail account will not cause local copies to go away?

In the Apple Mail app you can create mailboxes on your local Mac. (Mailbox > New Mailbox > Location: On My Mac). Copy emails there and they should stay on your Mac even if removed from the IMAP inbox.

Further, you can Export any mailbox to MBOX to archive the emails on your local Mac. MBOX is a common method to archive emails and you can always import them back into Apple Mail and other email apps.

But note, MBOX only works with single-level folders; if you have nested mailboxes (folders) you must be careful to export 1 at a time; and not export a mailbox that has child mailboxes.
