Can an AirTag be destroyed and still show home location?

Our cat is missing. She has an AirTag on collar. I cannot locate her. It indicates that she’s home but she’s not. I’ve walked all over the place inside and out. If an AirTag is destroyed would it indicate that it’s at home base?

Airtags are exceedingly poor pet trackers. (Or for that matter poor for “tracking” ANY moving object)

To be located, they must be within fairly close range of another iPhone the instant it transmits it’s intermittent beacon.

Few animals … especially cats … seek out strangers w/ iPhones.

Plus the incessant beeping the tag makes anytime your iPhone is not nearby, might be adding to the animal’s general anxiety.

Best of luck finding your kitty, but don’t obsess over what might be displayed on the FindMy screen at the expense of “old fashioned” search methods.
