Can not gain access to Mac mini m2 , due to forgotten password

Forgot password for Mac mini M 2, I got the machine recently, but had to work abroad, and forgot the password, hint was no help, machine then stated : Restart and show reset options.

When I clicked this, I was hoping maybe it would display Apple ID as an option, it doesn’t.I was given one option recovery key, which I don’t have.

It appears the community is my only hope, I’ve tryed Apple help to no avail. Would appreciate any help.

"Reset it using your recovery key"

After entering your password up to three times, if you see the option to reset using your recovery key, click it.
Enter your FileVault recovery key. It's the string of letters and numbers you received when you turned on FileVault and chose to create a recovery key instead of allowing your Apple ID to reset your password. If you lost it, follow the steps here: If you can't reset your login password.
Enter your new password information, then click Reset Password.
