Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter seems to work intermittently (I keep having to swap USB-C ports to make it work on my MacBook Air M2)

I have the following adapter, bought from Apple in the hopes of reliable operation:

The Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple (CA)

I am using this adapter about 12 hours a day to stream an IP camera to my MacBook Air M2 (which has 2 thunderbolt ports). Every once in a while, the adapter stops working. The only solution I have found is to remove it from the first port and plug it in the second port (and swap the power adapter from the second port to the first port).

This sounds strange and I'm wondering if anyone has any insights.
