What would you recommend as a shared storage solution for a small film studio working with raw 4k video with project sizes of 8-16 TB? We've tried a QNAP (SSD cache + spinning platter storage) sharing over 10g ethernet but trying to manipulate the project clips has delays of 10-15 seconds per operation.

Terry, are your libraries local with only your footage on the QNAP NAS, or are both footage and libraries on the NAS?
We have several QNAP NAS enclosures connected via 10GbE and primarily work with Sony 4K footage without issue (not raw though).
QNAP makes many NAS versions, some are good for video, some are not. I would ask in the Storage forum on liftgammagain dot com.
Hi Joema. Everything is on the NAS. I experimented with putting the cache on the local boot SSD, but ran into some strangeness that I attributed to separate caches on the different edit machines so I decided that it was easiest to keep the cache on the NAS alongside the library.
SMB. I investigated NFS but storage guru Bob Zelin recommended against it. Unfortunately, no Spotlight indexing on QNAP. Though since moving to 10GbE QNAP NASes around 6 years ago it hasn't really been a problem for us and the types of programs we work on.
Do you use SMB or NFS? Does Spotlight indexing (including searches for Finder tags) work OK on the NAS?
