Screen Brightness Keeps Automatically Turning Down (Auto Brightness is OFF)

Macbook Air M1 Chip. Current Os, Sonoma 14.5

My screen brightness randomly turns off while I am using the computer. By turning off I mean I can watch the brightness display turning down all the way until it blacks out.

I have troubleshot by updating software, restarting the computer, turning it off, and even removing and examining the keyboard key.

Please do not comment about going into settings and toggling with auto brightness. I have already done that.

The screen goes completely black and I have to press the power button to try to log back in.

Please help

Perhaps the Brightness Down button is sticking causing it to lower the brightness.

There is also another brightness setting to dim the display when on battery power (IIRC it is in the Display System Settings, under "Advanced"). If this is enabled, then any time you are logged out & back in, the display will dim....including when the laptop sleeps & wakes up.

Are you using any third party software or utility which may be controlling the display features?

Otherwise, it sounds like some sort of hardware issue. Have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop.
