Connecting MacBook Air to monitor

Every time I try and plug my MacBook Air 2024 model it doesn't display on my monitor so after I restart it though it works it's a bit annoying. Is there an update to my drivers that I need or what can I do?

User manual is showing that at 1920x1080, the monitor has a refresh rate (vertical frequency) of 60 Hz (page 30). So that seems unlikely to be the issue.

After you plug in the monitor or the dock, have you tried generating a few keyboard or mouse events (like pressing the Shift key, or clicking on the mouse pointer in a "harmless" area)? I believe the Mac will check for the presence of monitors only at a few specific times. And the monitor itself may have entered a sort of sleep state if it was not receiving a signal.

Here's HP's description of the HP E24MV G4 monitor.

1920x1080 resolution. DisplayPort v1.2, HDMI v1.4, and VGA inputs. It has a Webcam, microphone, and speakers. You'd need to make a USB connection (separate from the video connection) to use the Webcam and microphone. So far, I'm not seeing any indication of what the monitor wants in the way of refresh rates.
