Sorting Photos In Multiple Albums

Just got a new computer and I'm in photos on Sonoma. I've imported the photos and they are out of order in each album. I clicked on the top folder which has the albums in it and chose sort by oldest first. This appears to have only sorted the albums within the folder and done nothing to the photos in the albums. I'm sure this was an option in Aperture, which they need to bring back, Photos is a horrible replacement for all the lost options Aperture had. Anyway, it looks like I have to right click each album and choose a sort option. Very frustrating that there is not a default sort option.

To sort the photos in an album chronologically

  • select the album in the sidebar,
  • then ctrl-click the album or right-click it,
  • click "Sort" and select the sort option you want.

You have to do this for each album individually.

Well, the best solution (and the reason I didn't know of this eject thing) is to use the 3rd party app PowerPhotos ($30). Most of us do--certainly those of us who work with multiple Libraries. Any time I'm using Photos, I've got PowerPhotos open, as well. It makes the switching of Libraries and the moving of pictures between Libraries way easier.PowerPhotos is simple the answer to working with multiple Libraries.

It is not possible to keep the Library you are importing from mounted. Try to import all photos you want to import together. While Photos is keeping a second library open, Photos is hogging a lot of storage and caching many files. Perhaps it is ejecting the library asap once the import has finished to release the storage quickly.

I second the suggestion to use PowerPhotos. It is making moving Photos between libraries much easier, because we can select albums and folders when importing.
