can someone recommend me a portable esternal SSD that I can use for a backup of my iMac M1 2021?
I really don't know what to buy.

Any of the OWC SSDs that BDAqua recommended are excellent choices. For portability, however, the 250GB, 500GB, 1TB or 2TB OWC Envoy Pro mini would be the easiest to carry around with your laptop. That is if the 1TB or 2TB size is enough for your needs which it should be. I have a 4TB SSD external for Time machine and have 79 backups for about 2TB of data. The use of hard links for those files that have not changed keep the size of each backup down.
