Safari start page IPad

Hello,

there is a option in safari when setting your start page called “suggestions”. If I activate it nothing obvious happens. Can someone please explain.

Safari default settings has no effect on my iPad I have Safari set as the default browser on my iPad ,but it doesn’t appear to actually work. When I open a web page the bookmark icon isn’t available. I have found that if I click the “ action” (?) icon ( square with an arrow) a drop down box appears & one of the options is “ open in Safari” clicking that changes the appearance of the bar ( toolbar?) and the bookmark icon has appeared & works. The first image shows how it looks after I have clicked the Open in Safari option & the second image shows how the page opens usually. How Do I Make Safari on iPhone ALWAYS open a new tab to a specific page? I ALWAYS had google search as my home page, a new tab would always open to that. It was doing it all day yesterday like normal. Now today, with no update, no restart, suddenly this morning it opens to "Favorites" which I NEVER use and could care less about. There seems to now be no way to create a set start page, or make your new tabs to open to a set page. How can this be possible??? I'm on an iPhone 17 Pro Max running iOS 26.2 and this is driving me crazy !!!!! Any help is appreciated. LOL

Perhaps Customize your Safari settings on iPad - Apple Support offers an explanation. Under Choose options for your start page,

Siri Suggestions: As you search, allow websites shared in Calendar and other apps to appear.

Is that what you are asking about?

Here it is called Suggestions, Vorschau in german and not like on all the other devices Siri-Vorschau

On my iPhone and MacBook there is the option Siri suggestions, on my iPad it’s just suggestions and nothing happens when activating.
