Pentalobe screw from MacBook Pro's backpanel

Hello,

I visited the service centre and they don't have any spare screws. One screw is missing. They asked me to order those based on the model no.

Where can I buy those ?

Thanks,

Mohan

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider should be able to easily replace the screw for you although you may need to pay for five of them since they are in packs of five. Depending on your region & the exact model of your laptop, you may even be able to order the screws from Apple through the Apple Self Repair Program.

If you decide to order screws from a third party website/vendor, then you need to make sure to know your exact model laptop and exactly which screw is missing since some laptops will use several different size screws. A reputable vendor will have very clear details on exactly which screws are for your exact model....avoid vendors which cannot be absolutely sure of compatibility.

FYI, I personally would not worry about missing a single screw as long as the Bottom Case is not separating from the upper Top Case Assembly. The Bottom Cases of these 2016+ Apple laptops have both clips along back and at least two or more strong snap clips in the middle or front of the laptop (varies slightly by models). Unless something is deformed, the Bottom Case is usually fine without the screw.

The screws used will be metric screws, specified in diameter and treads per millimeter.

Pentalobe screw heads are used where User access is discouraged. You are far more likely to find an ordinary Phillips-head screw the right diameter and length that will do the job just fine.

The blue stuff sometimes seen is thread locker compound, sold at retail in the US as Loctite™. It is color coded.

Blue is for smaller screws that might need to be removed. Red is more commonly used to retain larger automotive engine bolts, such as Head Bolts. When Red is applied to tiny screws, they can be very difficult to remove without resorting to drillling out the fasteners.
