Apple TV 4K (No USB port) - White Light continuously flashing
I have an Apple TV 4K (with no USB port) and seems to have had a hardware malfunction. It is out of warranty and is probably about 4 years old.
I believe it occurred during an update. The white light just keeps blinking and nothing else happens. I’ve tried turning the unit off for different periods of time but it’s still the same.
Then, I took the unit to an authorised Apple service centre but they could not repair it. I then called Apple support and they said that because it’s out of warranty, then a repair would likely cost $150 Australian dollars.
I bought the unit in Australia but now I live in Thailand.
I would think if I had a USB port on the unit, then I could connect it to a computer and then to iTunes, and do a restore. But because Apple has not provided a USB port on this model, I am unable to do this.
This is strange, as many other similar products at least have a way that a customer can restore a unit with this type of things occur.
But because the unit is approx 4 years old and I’m living in a different country, I am not able to get any assistance without paying around half the price compared to a new unit.
I have read older forum posts on this issue and Apple were able to provide a replacement unit even if the Apple TV was out of warranty. But it seems now that this is not possible.
I believe Apple should supply a replacement unit as this appears to be a fault in the design of this model which prevents the customer from even attempting to conduct a self-restore.
Anyone have any ideas? Looks like I might just now possess an expensive brick.
