Convert Voice Memo to mp3

I want to convert a Voice Memo recording from my iPhone into an mp3, so that I can add it to a Playlist, listen to it in the car, etc.

Why is this sooooo difficult???

I did get it to sync to the Voice Memos app on my Mac.

Why does Apple keep changing how it is done?!!! (hint, people *hate* that!)

e.g. there used to be a "Voice Memos" playlist in iTunes

then the Voice Memos app had File / Convert / Create mp3 version

Now that was removed - what, why?!

So frustrated that Apple is wasting my time once again. }:-{

After spending several hours on this, I found at least 1 way that works . . .

From the iOS Voice Memo app, slide the memo right / . . . / Share / AirDrop to Mac

The file will appear on the Mac in the Downloads folder (with original creation date)

Open the Music app on the Mac and from the File menu, select Import, and find the m4a in the Downloads folder

Find the newly added item in the Songs list, or even quicker, see Library / Recently Added on the left pane

I converted to mp3 using File menu, Convert option, but iirc, I had to toggle a setting for that to appear :-P

Now the usual drag the item to the Playlist, and sync with Phone

Suggestion for Apple:

have the Voice Memo app on the Mac be able to Export / Share directly to a file on disk

and/or have the Mac Music app be able to import Voice Memo files directly

P.S. I hate Apple 10% more today
