Safari won’t let me browse the web
When I enter what I’d like to search, it just gives me a blank download
iPhone 6, iOS 12

Force a restart, and try again: Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
If not, and if you have any add-on VPN or add-on security apps, or any ad-blocking extensions installed, remove all of those and restart, and try again.
Can you get to Apple, if you specify www.Apple.com in the search bar?
If you change your default search engine in Settings > Safari > Search Engine (that’s the path on iOS 17, I don’t have iOS 12 handy to check), does that change the Safari behavior here?
Is this specific to one Wi-Fi or one cellular network? Does Safari work on a different network?
