This occurs with or without all Apps closed. Wakes from sleep just fine if the lid is left open. Battery option is set to prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off. Lid must be closed for a few minutes before problem occurs.

Try resetting the System Management Controller Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support
