Viewing iPhone 15 pro max screen in sunlight

I have adjusted the screen to be as bright as possible but I still can’t see the images in my screen in bright sunlight. How do you know what pictures or video you are shooting if you can’t see it in the screen?

iPhone X, iOS 14

Wearing dark sunglasses may improve your iPhone screen's visibility in bright sunlight.

  • Reduces Glare: Sunglasses with polarized lenses can significantly reduce glare from the sun reflecting off your phone screen. This can make it easier to see the overall image on the screen, even if it's still dim.
  • Improves Overall Visibility in Sunlight: By cutting down on the sun's brightness reaching your eyes, sunglasses can make it more comfortable to look at your phone screen in general. This can be helpful when referencing the screen for composition or using the tips mentioned earlier (gridlines, pre-visualization).

While sunglasses won't magically boost your screen brightness, the reduced glare and improved overall visibility can make it a bit easier to use your phone for photography in bright conditions.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • Sunglasses with mirrored lenses might be less helpful: Mirrored lenses can further reduce the brightness reaching your phone screen, making it even harder to see the image.
  • Try a phone shade: These clip-on hoods create a physical shade over your phone screen, further reducing glare and improving visibility.
