How can I unlock my MacBook from another iCloud account associated with the Mac?

the iCloud is from a different account but I want to icloud unlock it I have access to the other cloud account so if I can remote unlock it from one of my devices that would be ideal

also there's data I want off I'm not sure I backed everything off said device so I want to be 100% I got everything

The Problem is I cannot charge or turn it on with or without charger all I can do is see that its in my list of connected devices and I don't see a hard drive on youtube videos so idk where I can connect it to my computer if anything the thing that matters most is if I can unlock my MacBook from my other cloud account associated with the mac

If that 12” 2015 Retina MacBook is dead, you won’t be getting anything off the notebook itself. The flash memory that makes up the SSD is soldered to the motherboard.

Your only hope for data recovery lies with backups (if you made any) or with data stored in iCloud or other cloud services.

I don't see how asking for a remote erase is going to help you with data recovery. Erasing data is the opposite of recovering it.

The moderator has retitled the thread, but based on my earlier reply, I'm pretty sure that you told us (in the former title) that you had a 12” 2015 Retina MacBook. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

That Intel-based Mac is not among the Mac computers with the Apple T2 Security Chip, which means that, as far as I know, it doesn't support Activation Lock for Mac. I'd be surprised if you could request a remote Erase. If you could request a remote Erase, and the dead MacBook came to life long enough to carry it out, you would be saying bye-bye to the data on the MacBook.

And since it is dead, its resale value is probably $0 or close to it.

No you can't unlock it with a different account, can't do much of anything on a dead device.

thats good that it cannot be iCloud locked but yeah if I cannot get my data from what I researched and seen is I need another MacBook and replace the logic board and download everything from there it seems more cost effective if I sold parts of it and then help who bought the logic board after they willingly bought it and accepted the offer and know what’s needed to be done to make it a clean slate for them and cash for me to get a new MacBook I don’t know how to send images of the internals but it’s not done by me and what looks to be salvageable is the screen logic board and battery

If your MacBook Is broken, why would someone pay you anything for it?

If it's not cost-effective for you to buy another working 12" Retina MacBook – and hope that you can place your logic board into the other MacBook's chassis as a means of data recovery – why do you think that there will be buyers who will want to go to all the trouble to buy pieces of your. broken MacBook, then do the data recovery which you are unwilling to do for yourself, or pay a repair shop to try to do?

Note that while 12" Retina MacBooks do not have T2 security chips or Apple Silicon processors, they likely do support firmware passwords. If a MacBook is locked with a firmware password, Apple won't help you clear it, unless you bring the MacBook to them, and have original proof-of-purchase documentation.

as far as i know it’s mostly backed up I’m not sure I got everything though I know for sure the logic board is working it’s the battery cable and the cable that connects to the charger that’s not working I’m wondering if I buy a iCloud locked beat up MacBook of the same model just a broken screen can I use a monitor after swapping the logic board out and download everything to a usb Drive

also if everything fails to work can I remotely iCloud unlock and wipe all data off the MacBook logic board remotely to attempt to get something out of the lose

Jul 1, 2024 9:33 PM in response to razmee209

The logic board is functional for sure it’s the battery connections that are dead I’m wondering if I can get a beat up MacBook and just replace the logic board and download everything from it

as far as I know everything was backed up the second it started to show issues but I want to get whatever is possible I have access to other iCloud account I just don’t know how to remotely recover data

So if all options I mentioned isn’t going to work what are options to consider besides apple repair they offered to do the job for the price of a new MacBook but if other repair shops will offer services what should I go to I don’t know any physical repair store I’m used to using ifixit and fixing macs myself I never worked on 2015 macs besides cleaning
