im trying to update my git however I keep getting the apple version of the git but im trying to use the home-brew version which I have already installed im just struggling to have point to that version of the git

You need to examine your shell's PATH variable. This forum is full of posts where Homebrew has caused a complete mess of the shell's PATH.
I only used Homebrew very briefly years ago, but don't you need to use the Homebrew commands to update items installed by Homebrew?
You can try to open the home-brew version first and after that update it if you don't want to use the git packaged in Xcode
I have already done that however when I go into the terminal to see I still get the apple version of git and not the homebrew one
