magic mouse - horizontal scrolling

People have been complaining about horizontal scrolling for years. I recently got an iMac (running Sonoma) and a wireless mouse. Before this I had a wired mouse that was fine. The magic mouse's horizontal scrolling is especially annoying when using spreadsheets and documents. It appears I cannot turn it off. I'm not interesting in using terminal to reprogram the system. It seems the only solution is to replace the magic mouse with one from a different manufacturer. Any better ideas?
