AppleTV 4K Purchases Only Displaying In HD

I am truly pulling my hair-out in regard to this issue.


I apologise in advance for the length of this post but I want to ensure that I capture everything accurately in order to obtain the best help and guidance possible.


In summary I have purchased a number of 4K Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision movies from AppleTV but these are not being displayed in a 4K resolution on any of my AppleTV applications downloaded on my Xbox Series X, FireTV 4K Max and LG storefront.


I just want to confirm that I have accurately purchased 4K versions of these films as indicated on my Apple Purchase History billing receipts and the "4K" label assigned to each film in my IOS AppleTV library.


One of these films, as an example is "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey".


If I airplay this movie from my iPhone to my LG 4K panel the "4K" label is accurately presented, however, I lose Dolby Atmos functionality.


If I play this movie from the AppleTV application installed on my FireTV 4K Max I am being presented with a "HD" label and only a 1918x804 resolution. I have been able to obtain this information by enabling a FireTV real-time overlay function (developer toolkit) whilst playing the movie.



Essentially then I have paid £9.99 for a 4K version of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" but barely receiving 1080p blu-ray quality play-back. This is not acceptable.


This is not the case for "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring". This movie is accurately presenting me with a "4K" label and delivering a 3836x1608 resolution which is much improved.


I even purchased "Knock at the Cabin" a few days ago, again in 4K, and this is accompanying a "HD" label in AppleTV applications and only delivering me with a 1920x800 resolution.


I only noticed this problem a few days ago and when I first purchased the 4K version of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" it definitely did accompany a "4K" label.


I have read many posts about "4K" and "HD" labelling issues in regard to AppleTV content, however, this is not just a labelling issue but also appears to be a content delivery problem.


This is categorically not an internet speed related issue, as I am having no issues streaming 4K digital content that is being accurately identified.


I am very tech-savvy, especially with audio and video problem solving, and I am a complete loss trying to rectify this problem.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.
