Is the AirPods update 6A326 affecting battery life?

I recently noticed that my right airpod (2nd generation) was draining it’s battery quicker than the left. I also noticed that the AirPods recently received an update(6a326). I’ve reset them multiple times and I’ve cleaned the charging case. Could the update be causing issues with the battery?

Uneven battery drain on AirPods is normally to do with which bud (L or R) is being used as the microphone. Try switching the microphone to the other bud via Settings —> Bluetooth —> AirPods —> Microphone and see if the battery drain switches sides too. If this is what happens, there might be a background app using the mic unnecessarily. I’ve also noticed that pairing with non-Apple devices sometimes drains battery unevenly because the hardware microphone stays on.

Troubleshooting AirPods Power Draining:

A. Verify the Balance:

Looking on the app on the device you are using, it might hav more of an output to one ear and not the other. These are two separate devices --not one.

B. A Few Links to Visit:

C. Try the Following Tasks:

  • Hold Down the Button on the case for about 15 seconds.
  • Use an Apple Brand Cable - not a third party one - cool though it may look, a fabric, third-part cable would likely tear - (Apple cable's are plastic and are intended for Apple)
  • Remove the AirPod from the Case, then place it back in the charger. Perhaps it need to resync with he charger.
