Email keeps creating drafts as I write

When I write an email, mail keeps creating new drafts -- when I finally send m,y completed draft, my desktop is filled with incomplete drafts that I have to delete individually. FOR EVERY EMAIL I WRITE. I cannot find a setting to turn this off. Any ideas?

Quite a common problem...

Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Your Account>Mailbox Behaviors, what path is Drafts Mailbox set to?

Setting it to an On My Mac Drafts box generally cures it if you don't need Drafts sent to other devices.

Try setting to an On My Mac Box.

Thank you for the fast response.

I note that my post listed my computer as running macOS 10.12; in actuality it's running MacOS 14.5.

(I have no idea why that is so.)

(In 14.5, I get to this via Settings>Accounts...etc.)

I have changed the setting to "On My Mac" on both my gmail & iCloud accounts, but it keeps defaulting back to "Drafts"......

Your thought sounds perfect but I can't get it to stick.
