'cursoruiviewservice' Not Responding and Causing Lag on MacBook Air

Hello everyone,

I've noticed that the "cursoruiviewservice" process in Activity Monitor is becoming 'not responding' and causing significant lag on my MacBook Air, especially when typing and switching between upper and lower case letters. It appears this process also controls the blue caps lock indicator, which stops working when the process is unresponsive. This issue seems to cause the lag, and currently, it is using about 170MB of RAM.

I'm avoiding restarting my MacBook as I've raised this issue with Apple Support and may need to provide logs again. Additionally, the "com.apple.hiservices-xpcservice" process also becomes unresponsive, though it usually doesn't exceed 3.5MB of RAM.

This seems to be related to an XPC (Cross-Process Communication) error. Some logs also suggest that Microsoft Outlook is not handling the clipboard process correctly.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a solution?

Thanks

MacBook Air 13″

At this time, there is no imperial evidence, as to the cause of this issue.

If you believe this to be a serious enough issue.

Would suggestion the following >>

Start now and open an Apple Support Ticket as they are PAID  Apple Employees to deal will these types of issues .

Product Feedback - and make it known to Apple regarding this ongoing issue

Have the computer evaluated by the Professionals who have the Special Hardware Software and Expertise to diagnose the issue and offer possible solutions

Make an Appointment at the Apple Genius Bar or call 1 800 MyApple and have them evaluate the computer

In the specific context of the Suppled Report for a M3 MBA 2024

Your machine has 16 GB Unified RAM versus mine 8 GB Unified RAM

You machine has been On for 1 Day versus my about an hour

Battery Count on your is at 61 Full Cycles and mine 6 Full Cycles

I do not see Numbers, Pages, Keynote, GarageBand, iMovie showing as having having been installed, which is Standard installed as a New Computer

The two machines each have the same 500 GB SSD drive

The point being, on my M3 MBA, which is almost identical in most hardware and software configuration

The cursoruiviewservice' Not Responding and Causing Lag on MacBook Air does not occur

Nor does it occur on a M1 and M2 machines

All the machines have been upgraded from every version macOS 14 up to and including Sonoma 14.6.1 and onto macOS 15.0 Sequoia

In good faith. the Etrecheck Report for this machine ( mine ) is listed below for your own comparison and verification

It looks like there’s a misunderstanding. Simply having an app on the App Store does not mean Apple automatically takes a cut. For free apps, like many on the store, Apple doesn’t take any percentage. Apple only charges a fee on paid apps or in-app purchases.

The claim that being on the App Store only means Apple takes a percentage is completely incorrect.

Developers use the App Store for more than just revenue sharing, it offers better security with sandboxing, trusted app distribution, and broader access to users. It’s about providing a secure and convenient experience, not just revenue.

Please don't confuse the users.

Download the Application Etrecheck  ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

Again!

  • I did a clean install
  • I didn’t install any third-party applications.
  • I didn’t even sign in with my Apple ID
  • I didn’t change any settings!

Yet, the "com.apple.hiservices-xpcservice" process continues to be unresponsive. "CursorUIViewService" hasn’t become unresponsive yet, but the RAM usage keeps increasing. I assume this will also become unresponsive eventually.

Please, if you don’t have a suggestion to contribute on this matter, don’t confuse the users experiencing the same issue here.

Here are the main possible reasons why the com.apple.hiservices-xpcservice process becomes unresponsive, based on the spindump analysis:

  • WindowServer Deadlock

The spindump data shows that the com.apple.hiservices-xpcservice process is stuck waiting for the WindowServer. This service is responsible for managing graphical operations on macOS. Messages like turnstile waiting for WindowServer indicate that the process is blocked from accessing critical resources, leading to a system deadlock.

  • Kernel-Level Blocking

Threads within the process are halted, waiting for mach_msg_overwrite and mach_msg2_trap system calls. These indicate that the process is attempting to communicate with other system services, but it remains stuck due to unresponsive system-level communications.

  • Wake-from-Sleep Issues

The analysis suggests that the issue began after waking from sleep mode, as indicated by the system being unresponsive for a prolonged time (~800 seconds). This points to a failure in re-establishing communication with services like WindowServer upon waking.

  • Resource Access Problems

There are no clear indications of hardware failures in the spindump, but the process seems to have been stalled while trying to access shared resources, hinting at a possible software conflict or misconfiguration.

Once, you mentioned something like, ‘Turn off all the unnecessary settings in Accessibility.’ You suggested this would prevent the process from becoming unresponsive. Below, I’m sharing with you what HIServices does, according to Apple’s official page, for your information. Additionally, by saying this, you’re essentially claiming that Apple’s own system features are causing a problem, which contradicts your own point.

HIServices.framework

Contains interfaces for accessibility, Internet Config, the pasteboard, the Process Manager, and the Translation Manager. Available in OS X v10.2 and later.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster.

Certain Third Party Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store - this only means the Developer is prepared to pay Apple a percentage on each sale.

What the Third Party Application may do to the computer is up to the User to check this out before purchase.

Carefully read the 'How to contact an app developer' article in the link you sent, look at what it says there:

When to contact an app developer for help

If an app isn't working, but the issue doesn't affect other apps.

The links and explanations you sent have nothing to do with our topic. On this forum alone, 75 people have said 'me too,' and there are 35 replies. There's a serious lag occurring on the computers.

Users who aren't experiencing lag or 'not responding' issues having a simple `CursorUIViewService` process taking up 1.5 GB is already not normal in itself.

Are you saying that it's not Apple's responsibility if the 3rd party app I downloaded from the App Store causes a system error that prevents me from writing in Apple Pages or Safari? Am I understanding this correctly? If I were to download a third-party app from the App Store and, as a result, Safari wouldn't open, would that be considered normal? By the way, the developer of the 3rd party app in question is Microsoft.

This issue seems to relate directly to a Third Party Applications from Microsoft

Not unlike using Microsoft Edge on Apple Computer

Apple can fix Apple Services, Apple Applications, Apple Operating Systems and Accessories

Apple can not fix Third Party Applications

Apple can’t fix the Users’ choice of Third Party Applications installed and use on this computer.

That clearly falls  Out-Side of the Domain of Apple and belongs solely with the Third Party Application Developers
