iMac late 2012 wont update

I have an iMac Late 2012, and eventually it died from a power outage. We took it to get fixed, (not at an apple store) and it worked. After a year or two, i downloaded OpenCore Legacy Patcher, and used MacOS Sonoma. I eventually realized how slow it was, so i tried to go back to Macintosh HD in the selector menu, but it wouldnt work. I went into the recovery menu, and the only option was mac os x. I installed it, thinking i could install it the update from the app store. But then i realized the app store was not connecting ( yes i tried ethernet) What should i do?

Did you see the recovery startup options in this Apple article:

Use macOS Recovery on an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

The options ar ein the third section.

Iti s possible that the hack you used to install Sonoma whacked some files or, worse, firmware that Recovery needs. If so you may need ot try this article: Use a bootable installer

10.15.7 is the latest a 2012 iMac can run, so Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac...

Start up from macOS Recovery

Command-R is generally recommended, especially if you never installed macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later… How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

Command (⌘)-R

Install the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac.

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.

Shift-Option-⌘-R
