Delayed posting of Apple Card Payments

I initiated a Chase Bank EFT payment payable to Apple Card Goldman Sachs Bank on June 26, 2024 and Chase Bank reports it was paid the next day, June 27. Apple Goldman did not credit my account until July 3, 2024. They then levied a $8.87 interest charge to my account.

This is certainly incompetence and I suspect a violation of banking regulations. I plan to call Apple Goldman Bank next week to ask that the charges be waived. If not, then I'll simply send a written complaint to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the California Department of Corporations.

Apple ought to be ashamed to be dealing with such a poorly managed bank as Goldman Sachs.

Apple is not a bank. It does not receive your funds. Apple Card MasterCard is a co-branded credit card , just like Hilton, Marriott, American Airlines etc, are not banks but have credit cards issued and serviced by a bank.

Goldman Sachs has various ways to pay a monthly statement and specially state in their terms and conditions that not using Apple Wallet to establish a payment method will be considered a non-conforming method of payment. This includes paying by check, paying by cash, paying by various forms of bill payment services, which includes the Chase Bank EFT method.

EFT includes several types of electronic payment methods, including ACH (Automatic Clearing House). EFT payment are usually instantaneous. However, my understanding is Goldman does not accept instant EFT payments for Apple Card. They will accept ACH transfers. Can you confirm Goldman Sachs accepts instant EFT transfer for Apple Card payments?

ACH generally takes 1 to 3 business days. The funds are transferred via the Federal Reserve Banking system. Neither Chase nor Goldman Sachs control the transfer of the funds. The actual transfer usually starts the day after transfer is initiated. If you initiated the transfer on the 26th of June, it probably started the 27th. Your payment would have to have completed the next day to be credited to your account. The 29th and 30th of June were the weekend and the Federal Reserve System is closed.

Moving forward, have you talked to Goldman Sachs and asked for a one time exception and forgiveness for the late payment and interest charge? That would be your first option.

I’m sorry you are disappointed in Apple and I’m very sure that Apple appreciates your patronage and loyalty over the last 42 years. In full disclosure, I’m a former Apple retail employee and I’m just wanting to explain the process and the whys and hows it happened. I do have a lot of experience in the financial field and just wanted to try to help you and community members that may read this post in the future. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

I pay all my bills via Chase Bank EFT as I did with the latest Apple Card bill. As I said, and you apparently missed in my initial posting, the funds were sent by Chase Bank on June 26 via electronic funds transfer (EFT) and paid to Apple Card Goldman Sachs Bank on the 26th or 27th at the latest. Therefore, Apple Card Goldman Sachs Bank, as agent for Apple, had the use of my funds at that time. If the internal crediting and posting to my account is slow because of poor internal accounting procedures, that is not my fault. The fact is that Goldman Sachs Bank had the use of my funds in June several days before June 30 and therefore no late interest is appropriate.

If Apple Card Goldman Sachs Bank will not accept payments from EFTs of large commercial banks such as Chase Bank, then I have no use for Apple Card and will be cancelling. Unfortunate, since I have been a loyal customer of Apple since 1982. This is the first time in 42 years that I've been sincerely disappointed in Apple.

Your welcome!

You and I are similar age, so I can relate. Unfortunately, Apple Card is anything but a traditional credit card. It really wants everything done through the iPhone. This exclusivity means some of the traditional services like setting up bill pay, home finances/budgeting are lacking or only seem to be a tacked on after thought.

As a strategy moving forward, I wouldn’t mention canceling the card in your telephone conversation with GS regarding interest charges. Closing an account is something banks don’t like to see. Either way it doesn’t hurt your credit.

You’ll also be paying residual interest on any unpaid account balance starting July 1. Interest compounds daily on all credit cards.

I very much appreciate your taking the time to explain how the Apple Card works, which is meaningfully different from all the VISA & Master Cards I've carried all these years. The fact that the Apple Card carries the VISA logo is unfortunate as it suggests, obviously incorrectly, that it is managed in a typical VISA manner.

I was planning to call Goldman Sachs Bank next week and ask that the interest charges be waived.

Sadly, I'll be cancelling the card once this matter is concluded and a final balance can be provided for my payment. The card is simply structured in such a non-traditional credit manner quite different from typical Master and VISA cards. It simply doesn't work for me.

Thanks once again for the info. I'll remain loyal to Apple as I have since my first Apple Computer product (Apple II) through 45 to 50 Macintoshes, iMacs, iPods, iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, Air Pods, Apple Watches and and even the great Apple Laser printer I loved dearly (I'm that old). I've converted no less than two dozen Windows and Android users to Apple ... one was even the former National Sales VP for HP.

Thanks again .... and Apple forever!

Joe ~
