Is the Trash Bin 100% safe to delete on iMac ?

If you put something into the Trash by mistake, then empty the Trash as well, that copy of the item is gone.

The Trash IS the safety net. There’s not another one behind it, unless, say, the dats was around long enough to make it into backups.

Older macOS had the ability to securely delete (overwrite) data undergoing deletion, but that’s unnecessary and wasteful on SSD.

This due to the fundamental differences between HDD and SSD storage hardware.

Overwriting has been questionable on HDDs with embedded servo tracking too, which is pretty much everything in the last thirty years. Floppies with sloppy tracking, maybe. Newer gear, not so much.

And if your data is that sensitive, you’ll want to grind up and slag the gear after deleting and decommissioning it.

There is no need to perform an overwrite on an SSD, and no good way to do that other than via TRIM, and that iMac M1 Mac is equipped with an SSD. The data on the internal SSDs are also encrypted, which adds an extra layer of protection to this mic.

Secure delete (overwrite) was removed at OS X 10.11.

iMac M1 is not what I would consider a fossil. I’m working with older gear, and some of it much older.

100%? The contents are present in any Time Machine or similar backups, if that’s where this is headed.
