Thanks so much!!

Did you use Migration Assistant to migrate from the old Mac – or a backup – to the new Mac? If so, that might have copied over your iTunes Library. (You might still need to run the Music and TV apps to trigger conversion from the old iTunes Library format to whatever you are using now.)

Suppose that you didn't do that – that you have set up your new Mac with a large external drive containing a copy of your old iTunes Library, and folders where you want your new Music and TV libraries to go. A manual migration might go like this:

Music

  • Launch application while holding down the Option key to get the dialog to choose or create a music library.
  • Create music library on external drive, and select it as the music library.
  • In Music > Settings (General tab), turn off "Sync Library". (I have an Apple Music subscription – and did not want to take any chance of Apple Music "matching" my songs to other versions or to versions with DRM.)
  • In Music > Settings (Files tab), select a folder on the external drive as the location in which to store imported music.
  • Select Music > File > Import… and point it at the top of the iTunes Library folder. Let it recursively run through the library.

Note: I did something along these lines when moving from High Sierra to Ventura. After the conversion, I noticed that the new Music library was missing a lot of album artwork (much of which Music was willing to replace) – and later, that it was missing some albums. Since I still had a copy of the old iTunes Library on the drive, I ran imports again, against more deeply-nested folders containing just the missing albums, and this got many back.

TV

The import process here works in a similar way.
