My MacBook won’t go past login page.

It started with the Touch Bar screen not showing up, even though the Touch Bar was responsive and working fine– I just couldn’t see what it was showing. To try and fix it, I restarted the computer. When it got to the login page, I typed my password and pressed Enter and the login progress bar came up but it stopped at a point and it wouldn’t continue, even after an hour.

So then I decided to use online forums, particularly “How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility – Apple Support (UK) “ to try and fix the computer. I went into recovery mode and used Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility app, I realized the ‘Data’ volume under ‘Container disk3’ under Internal was shaded grey.

I followed the instructions on the link above, which was to repair the individual volumes. As soon I ran first aid on ‘Macintosh HD’, it returned as the blue(indicating to me that it was fixed). On seeing that, I thought that the problem was solved. So I clicked on the Apple button then the restart option, but the screen(and in fact the whole computer) froze and after a few minutes, a solid pink light was shown across the whole screen and the Apple logo came up. And after typing the password, it was still stuck on the login page.

i have run first aid in disk utility but problem is not solved

I also tried to install a new version of Mac OS Monterey on it, but whenever I do that, after about 20 minutes, the computer freezes and becomes unresponsive. (Even if I unplug the charger, it doesn’t show up nor make the sound)

About my device - I use 2020 M1 MacBook Pro with 256Gb of SSD and 8Gb of RAM.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.1

Disconnect all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if it will finish booting. If this works, then you most likely have an issue with some third party software.

If Safe Mode doesn't allow the laptop to boot, then you should run the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.

If none of the above helps or identifies a hardware issue, then a clean install of macOS is next. A clean install is when you first erase the disk followed by reinstalling macOS & restoring from a backup. If you have access to another Mac running macOS 14.x Sonoma, then you can even perform a DFU firmware Restore which is even better than just a traditional clean install.....you could of course also first try a DFU firmware Revive.

The solid pink line may indicate a hardware issue, but some graphical glitches are not uncommon when booting, waking, sleeping, powering off a computer.

Troubleshooting a Mac in a Login Loop:

Reset the Password Using the Login Screen:

If you can't get into it, then try changing your password from the login screen. You'd go through your Apple ID to perform this. Find out more here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support. Make sure that caps lock is not enabled when typing it. No Success? Go here: If you can't Reset your Mac Login Password - Apple Support

You should start your own thread so you get a better chance of attracting assistance since your issue probably is not the same as reported by the OP. The OP reported the boot process stalling while you are reporting your laptop is rebooting over & over on its own. That is already a significant difference between you and the OP. Different hardware and different versions of macOS can also complicate things further. You can monitor this thread for updates if the OP ever returns to provide updates in case it could provide clues or ideas for your situation. Trying to assist multiple people with different configurations & even slightly different issues gets very confusing and does a disservice to the OP and all contributors trying to provide assistance. Contributors on this forum are all just regular users volunteering our own personal time to assist people.
