I recently downloaded the new software on my MacBook, and I see that it is being downloaded. So I was just wondering what that mean I need to delete the previous software ? I don't want something which I don't use taking up space on my MacBook.

If you are asking about macOS updates, any files superseded by newer files are deleted automatically.
