iMessages deleted from iPhone are not being deleted from MacBook Air Messages App, and vice versa

I generally access my iMessages on my iPhone, and if necessary, delete those that are either spam, or no longer applicable or wanted.

To my surprise, this action is not being replicated in my MacBook Air Messages App, where I not only need to "re-delete" them, but I'm also unable to identify them as spam where applicable when I do. Most inconvenient.

I'm sure there's a simple resolution to this one, but I've not been able to find it here in the Communities. I hope therefore, that a kindly and knowledgeable participant may be able to shed some light on this one for me.

Are your Messages synchronized through iCloud? In the Messages application on your Mac, check Messages > Settings… (Message tab), and see if "Enable Messages in iCloud" is checked.

Assuming that you have your iPhone set up to forward SMS/MMS messages to your Mac, new messages will come to both your iPhone and your Mac even if "Messages in iCloud" isn't turned on. So things will mostly appear to be synchronized. But I suspect that you have to enable that option on both devices to

  • Synchronize "old" history that predates when you set up the "newer" device
  • Synchronize deletions

Troubleshooting and About iMessages:

A. Make Sure this is Set Up Correctly:

Go Here: Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

B. Enable Messages in ScreenTime:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Screen Time
  3. Tap: Allowed Apps
  4. Tap: Messages (So it is in "ALLOWED APPS")

C. Go Here: If you can’t Turn On or Sign In to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support

Thanks so much for your response and suggestions.

I have tried yours, and those of one other respondent, but to no avail.

iMessages are now enabled in the Cloud on both devices, but even after I read them on my iPhone (most likely place to do so), they remain in the Messages App on my MacBook Air.

Should you have any further suggestions, I welcome hearing from you.
