After clicking on the battery icon with a plug over top of it, it says “battery not charging” and has stayed like this for a few hours now. What do I do??

My macbook air went dead a couple of days ago; and now when I try and charge it, instead of the lightning bolt symbol there is a plug symbol. It doesn’t say charging is on hold and I have turned off Optimised Battery Charging. Now it only charges once turned off and really slowly. It has been like this for a couple of hours now. Please help, what can I do?

iPhone 8, iOS 16

Run the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.

Try unplugging the power adapter from the electrical outlet for a minute to reset the power adapter's internal circuitry.

Without knowing which MBAir you have, giving specific advice is hard. Here are two Apple articles for troubleshooting power issues:

If your MagSafe cable or power adapter isn't working - Apple Support

FYI, you should always post the exact model of the Mac and version of macOS. You can get that information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac".
