New iPad is still saying 'setting up your Apple ID' and buffering

Using quick start to transfer from old iPad version12.5.7 to new ipad os16. Started last night and old iPad has finished with the transfer but new iPad is still saying 'setting up your Apple Id' and buffering. Has something gone wrong?

Both devices old (source) and new (target) devices should be using the same AppleID. If new/different AppleID is being set-up with the new iPad, something is indeed amis.

Begin with a forced-restart of your new iPad:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset the new iPad - and restart the initial setup and/or transfer process:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings
