CAC Reader Wont Let Me Sign Into DoD Secured Websites

I have been trying to set up my cac reader on my mac book so I can access my email and other military sites but I have not been able to get it to work. I went through all the steps on militarycac.com and did all the recommended troubleshooting. To be a bit more specific every time I try to login I get through the login enter my pin and then i get an error message saying that the site cannot be reached. Any help would be appreciated.

What web browser are you using?

Are you using any browser extensions? Turn them off as they may not be allowed for that site.

Try using a third party browser such as Firefox or Vivaldi to see if that makes any difference (the latter is a Chromium based browser).

I vaguely recall a couple of other possibilities, but I'm not certain of the terms or where those settings may be located. One I believe is Safari hiding your IP address as mentioned in this Apple article:

Are you using a VPN?

Are you using any anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, or third party security software? They may be interfering as well.
