iCloud will not let me download files onto MacBook or upload

When I try to download a file which is stored on my iCloud, it sticks on 1% or partway through the download, so I am unable to retrieve any files which I need for work, etc.

I can't seem to upload either - current messages say 'downloading 4 items from iCloud' - stuck on zero KB, and 'uploading 55 items to iCloud' - stuck on 56Mb uploaded of 77Mb. It's like there's a jam of files stopping any progress..

I have tried resetting my MacBook, switching the network off and on again. I have typed 'killall bird' in Terminal, which stops the download but doesn't solve the issue.

I have not yet tried switching iCloud off and on again as I am worried this may cause me to lose all of my files which are currently stored there? I am running Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.3

I'll give Firefox a try, but I don't think I'm able to use latest version on this OS either.

Edit: Yep, "Browser is not supported' with iCloud.com either. I have Firefox 70.0.2. So all 3 browers on my system can't display iCloud.com.

I don't want to upgrade to a newer MacBook - not that I should need to when everything else works - as if I do that I'll lose access to the Adobe CS3 programmes I've been using for work for years. (I object to being forced to pay a monthly sub for this now that the new MacBooks can't run CS3).

Can someone from Apple shed any light on the iCloud issue and how it can be resolved. If it happened on a specific date then it's some update that they have done which affects those of us with 10.12 OS. We are paying for a service which doesn't work, otherwise.

Now I can't see any of the larger sized files which should be my iCloud drive. The icons were previously visible but woudn't download when I clicked them, but now I can't even see them in the relevant folders within iCloud and they seem to have vanished. I am paying a monthly fee for this?!

Also - I can't look at iCloud.com to check if files are there, or can be uploaded / downloaded by dragged to and from here, as neither of my browsers are compatible with iCloud.com any more. I have Safari 12.1.12 which I can't upgrade, because I can't upgrade from OS SIerra 10.12.16 on this machine, but neither it or Chrome with this OS will display the iCloud.com site.

iCloud on Sierra 10.12.6 seems to be trying to get the files but then failing due to a certificate pinning error

I'm speaking to an Apple Adviser on Chat just now. Looks like the version of the OS is the issue and no longer compatible with iCloud. I am being told to upgrade to High Sierra (which is the oldest version of the OS which allows apple services). He's saying that 'the list of Operation Systems that won't be supported any longer was launched last year, so it's possible July 3rd was the date where the services for that macOS version ended.'

Sierra is working again for me,

The one thing that I did which possibly (but if so) not immediately made a difference was turn off iCloud family sharing.

Form looking at the support page

iCloud sharing is 10.13+

iCloud drive is 10.11+

On my phone I went into family and unhooked this - however I don't think this is the issue as I created a brand new everything (user /apple id etc) and it was still broken

on saturday it just started working again as if there had been a server certificate change

I still can't see any of my larger files (which would have had the cloud / downloadable symbol next to them) when looking at my iCloud folders in FInder, but the actual downloading / uploading continuous loop has stopped. iCloud.com remains unsupported on Sierra OS on Safari + Chrome so I can't see that changing.

iCloud will not let me download files onto MacBook or upload
