M3 Max Macbook Pro - Issues Reading SD Card

I've encountered issues with mounting / unmounting an SDXC card using the built-in port on my M3 Max MacBook Pro. Mac is slow to recognize it being inserted, fails to eject or unmount, even when all programs and background tasks are closed/off. Read speeds at 5 MB/s (as opposed to typical 430 MB/s). This recent offloading occasion actually crashed my MacBook and forced a restart.

My Mac has had no issues with other, virtually identical cards with the same formatting, file structure, and data size.

I've troubleshot it down to this specific SDXC card on this Mac. A colleague tried the same SD card with the same data on an intel-based MacBook Pro (with external card reader), and they encountered no problems.

I'm scared to admit that I'm running into an issue with my brand-new M3 machine.

You can try a differnt SD card and compare your results.

I have seen some funny business even using a 16" Intel MBP macOS 14.5...

I use the Terminal.app copy & paste:

diskutil umount

*notice the trailing blank space,; drag and drop the SD card from the Desktop directly onto the Terminal window to complete the path; use the enter\return key to proceed.

ex:

MacBook-Pro ~ % diskutil umount /Volumes/Untitled

Volume Untitled on disk3s1 unmounted

MacBook-Pro ~ %

If it fails run it again until it un-mounts

The current stable release of Sonoma including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 14.5
