Numbers “green oval” how to turn off please
Can anyone tell me how to turn this off please? I’ve accidentally turned it on.
it magnifies cells inside it but I’m at a loss to even control it!

This appears to be a very common problem lately. I don't know what Apple has done that has caused this. If someone can figure out how the oval is getting there in the first place (i.e., how to get it there so easily it is often done accidentally), that would be great.

It appears to be a bug. I’ve hit it several times and had to use “force kill” to clear it from memory.
Force kill Numbers by swiping up on desktop to show the app icons. Swipe up on Numbers app icon to kill it.
Restart Numbers.
No no no. Force kill is a different thing than deleting. Swipe up or double click the home button to show the active apps as icons. Then swipe up on Numbers app displayed as an icon to force kill it.
I’m happy you solved your issue, but I just want to be clear about what I was saying worked for me. 👌
update - I’ve just been back into numbers and it’s gone! Just disappeared by itself!
I would still like to know 1 - how it got turned on in the first place and 2 how to turn it off?
if anyone can help be much appreciated.
Ah good. I don’t think there is any harm using force kill. It just removes the app from memory where some information is retained between sessions. Essentially it is like Quitting an application on the Mac/PC.
This is my method, too. But it's a pain. No one has answered why this bubble pops up. Usually for me it's when my spreadsheet is big and I'm doing a lot of text edits or formula edits. I figure it's a transient memory overload or something but I thought the latest, top of the line IPad Pro with max memory would take of it, but noooooooo......
I just restarted my ipad, then, the ring has gone.
I followed Jakib’s suggestion, making sure that my files were saved to the cloud first. I deleted the app, then reinstalled it on my iPad. BTW, the green oval didn’t appear in Numbers on my iPhone, just on my iPad. Weird.
Seems a strange ‘bug’ but thanks for the info Jakib. I’ll remember that one!
Hey Jakob, thanks. Worked perfectly for me! I wonder if you can answer this for me? I use “force kill” all the time, several times a day. I didn’t know it was called that. It’s just convenient. Does the name, force kill, mean I shouldn’t be using it all the time, but saving it for solving problems? Could that explain the lagging’s I’m experienceing? I’m not a newbie, but I am old and ignorant about tech. Appreciate your help!
Kinda driving me crazy that nobody is addressing the base issue! I can get the green bubble/circle to go away by re-starting, BUT WHY IS IT HAPPENING. Anytime I try to move the cursor to a specific place and hover for a millisecond too long, this pops up and the screen scrolls up for several seconds! Real pain to try to edit text by moving the cursor to right where you want it…never used to be a problem until this past summer (2024).
Try restarting your device - worked for me. Spreadsheet came back intact without the green ovals.
OMG!!! This comment saved the day and quite possibly my ipad's life! Thank you soooo much, I was ready to go postal. Lol
