Is it possible to merge/sync Music Libraries on Mac and iPhone?

Using old Mac mini and iTunes I was able to sync music between Mac, iPad, iPod, iPhone, Mac served as hub to enable the other devices. I could upload and merge cd's and other downloads with any purchases from iTunes. Now with new Mac mini on Sonoma this cannot be done. Mac sync has erased music from iPad and only allows purchases from iTunes. How can I merge music from iPhone (using previous music library) to my Mac to allow it to be one library. This should also allow new cd's loaded to Mac go sync to iPhone.

Sync is generally considered to be library to device. If you need to move content in the other direction you need help from third party software or a paid Apple service.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - Apple Community. The easiest method may be a temporary subscription to the Apple Music service, merging the music on the device into an iCloud Music Library which you then download to a computer and backup for security.
