Sharing TV and movies

Hi. I haven't been an Apple product user for some time. My last regular iPhone was the 6S Plus (although I briefly used an iPhone X as a work device). I'm tempted to make the switch back from Android to Apple for my phone.

One point of concern for me is that I like to share my media with my wife, we're often apart but like to watch shows and movies remotely together. I've spent a few years purchasing content via Google Play Movies which allows you to share content with those in your family group. Sadly Google has chosen to discontinue Google Play Movies in favour of Google TV which doesn't have a storefront on all platforms.

I believe iTunes allows you to share purchases made with family members, how exactly does this work and would it be an issue if either of us were abroad when wanting to access our content?

Big thanks in advance for any responses.

Google TV is available on iPhone and iPad: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/google-tv-watch-movies-tv/id746894884

With that said, Apple allows sharing of purchased movies and tv shows using Family Sharing.

Physical location for travel has no effect on Family Sharing, it should still work fine as long as both users have Apple IDs set to the same country.

You would need to purchase the movies and shows again from the iTunes store however, if you plan on using Apple's Family Sharing, as there's no way to transfer your Google purchased movies to the iTunes platform.

Hi Phil0124,

Thanks for the response. I'm happy, if I did switch, to start purchasing new content from iTunes.

I'm assuming it's still possible to access purchased content on a desktop PC using iTunes? So if I buy something via iTunes on an iPhone that content is accessible via a desktop?

Yes. If you are logged in with the same Apple ID in iTunes on the computer and your iPhone, your purchases will be available there too.
