Pro Display XDR disconnecting and reconnecting from MacBook Pro Max 3

Had this issue this morning, thought it might be useful to post on here (would have replied to an existing thread but they are all locked). Had an XDR monitor for over a year with no issues. Had a MacBook Pro Max 1 and occasionally a Lenovo PC laptop (work emails and Teams). Recently got a MacBook Pro Max3, which worked fine till this morning. The connection would suddenly drop, screen would go black and I'd hear the ping telling me the power was disconnected from laptop. Then it would get in a loop.

All I had connected was Logitech keyboard and mouse via bluetooth.

Here's what I tried that didn't work:

  • Rebooting Mac
  • Unplugging screen from power
  • Unplugging any other cables

What did seem to work is this. All the times it was hooked in I had a game running in the background, and the MacBook was in Game Mode. After I quit the game (and game mode switched off), screen worked fine. Is this some sort of sneaky productivity mode!  :)

The issue was definitely with the MacBook tho, I plugged in a PC laptop and had no issues while this was happening. Looking on previous posts that seems to be an ongoing thread.

That said, I restarted the game to see if I could replicate the issue, and it seems to be fine.

Adding an update to this, it doesn't seem to be game mode (tho switching screen modes can trigger it). It seems to be a power issue. If I plug in a separate power supply to the MacBook it seems to be ok (also doing this with screen open seems to help.

Not ideal tho is it for the price of the monitor? Even worse a cheap PC laptop works fine. Only seems to be an issue with my top line MacBook Pro!
