How do I stop emails flagged important by sender from staying at the top of my mac mail inbox?

Hi, I have received a couple of emails flagged important (with the two exclamation marks next to them) by senders in my mac mail and they constantly stay at the top of my inbox even though they are months old. All new emails come in below them.

How do I change the setting that is keeping them at the top of my inbox please? I don't want to delete them as I need them but would rather they are arranged as normal in date order like all the other emails in my inbox.

Thanks

Try–

Mail in Column Layout view: View menu > select Use Column Layout....

Right-click the header (contains From, Subject, Date Received, etc.) > in the pop-up menu, deselect Priority....

Set the view and sort to your desires.

Your desire seems to be, I think, having all your received emails in one mailbox. Instead, have you considered setting a rule to divert High Priority items?

I just walked through setting a rule for High Priority emails. After setting the rule parameters a dialog box asks if you'd like to apply the rule to existing emails. The rule worked properly for an existing and subsequent email I sent to myself.

It's a simple process and is explained by Apple Support here:
