Text jumbled when pasted from Apple Pages and emailed

I wrote a letter in Pages app on my Macbook Air. I have copied the text and emailed it and in the preview on my phone in the Apple mail app I can read it. However, when I open it is all jumbled and says at the top content-type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"

Content-transfer-Encoding: base64

and then all unreadable jumbled letters.

I tried first pasting the letter into Notes app and then to email but it does the same when I open the email on my phone.

Is it to do with the Pages app?

Thank you

It’s a mix of valid UTF-8 text, and of what is probably document formatting-related data.

That hunks of the headers are included in what is shown looks like a corruption in the MIME message processing, too.

But that data is (mostly) garbage.

Looks like a bug. Whether it is in Pages and what it’s putting in the paste buffer, or Mail and what it is accepting from the paste buffer?
